For consignment, a 1950 Ford Tudor Sedan with a title verified 89,757 actual miles. This example has a 12 volt upgrade, power steering, modern radio, and per our consignor, every grease fitting has been checked and replaced as needed, along with other maintenance issues addressed.
Exterior
Striking two stage, two tone paint adorns the car with black forming a mock cove and matching the roof, both lined with stainless trim. The rest is ruby red metallic, serving as a backdrop for the fantastic front treatment, robust chrome bars and bumper with a torpedo on the middle and a translucent, Centurion shaped hood ornament leading the charge. At a distance it's spectacular, but the metal here could be brought up a level. Out back, cigar shaped tail lights extend past the body line, tracing back from a contour of the body itself while slightly pointed fender tops give a gentle rise to the sides that flank the rounded decklid. Fender skirts partially obscure the 15-inch wheels in back and all four wheels are wrapped in 205/75R15's with a late 2022 date code. Along with the metal, imperfections are limited to various scratches and chips.
Interior
A silvery gray and burgundy make up the interior palette with the red as a stitched insert on the door panels and inserts on the split bench seat which shows a touch of a patina and some piping beginning to separate, but in general good shape. The rear bench and sidewalls share the color configuration and present in very good condition. Two colors dress the very cool steering while a D-shaped horn ring images from the Ford crested gold center. Our silver based dash has one main gauge and a number of ball handled knobs, ivory handles, and silver levers. In the center, an original clock over a modern radio, nicely mounted, and providing AM/FM with Bluetooth capabilities. Burgundy carpet coats the floor with gray carpeted mats, a silver perforated headliner is above, and the trunk wears a rubber mat.
Drivetrain
A good looking bay holds a good looking engine, that being a 239ci flathead V8, rated at 100 horsepower and fueled via a 2-barrel carburetor. It's backed by a three on the tree manual transmission which you will shift with an 8 ball handle and send power to the rear axle with 3.73 gears. The car runs on a 12 volt system.
Undercarriage
Driver quality with the color of a car that's been around the block once or twice, but we're not seeing any invasive rust at all. We note some residual oil on the pan and rear differential, but nothing excessive. The dual exhaust finds a pair of Smithy mufflers, then chrome tips out back. Drum brakes are on all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
We'll try this shoe on for size, and it's a nice fit that starts up right away, idles smoothly, and provides a throaty exhaust note that follows us on to the test loop. The car tracks straight, handles well, and brakes on demand. We note only the wiper not working, but all other functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Here is a well sorted and well maintained 1950 Ford that does everything well and looks good doing it. If you saw this car a half mile away, you would be impressed and even more so when it pulls up next to you. The paint scheme and characteristic shape is a winner and this clean machine is looking for a new garage!
