Vehicle Description
For consignment, a 1950 Ford Custom 4 door sedan showing 17,781 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a title exemption. This one had extensive work, more than 80 hours, at a professional shop where no expense was spared. The car will come to you with a detailed list of work that shows no stone was unturned to sort this 76 year old.
Exterior
Two stage Navy Blue paint is a great choice here and it shows off the chrome trim in all its glory. That starts with the torpedo nosed grille, robust front bumper and bumper guards, and headlight rings that give the car personality. The side spear visually pops off the panels and the gas filler trim is a classic sign of a bygone era when art and functionality merged. Spot lights and a visor give an otherwise simple shape some texture and we'll never get bored of how the rear panel curves conform to the shape of the oval tail lights. Exhaust ornamentation and a curb feeler just add to the appeal of this car while 15-inch wheels, painted to match, wear Ford hubcaps and white wall tires with the rear tucked under side skirts. Up close, imperfections noted include some paint runs on a character line, light pitting and scratches in the chrome bumpers front and rear along with some surface rust, inclusions, a few chips, unpainted where the hood trim meets the steel, bubbling on several lower panels, and dings in side trim piece.
Interior
Patterned gray cloth mixes with silver and gray features to create attractive door panels all with chrome hardware and ivory knobs, all presenting in nice shape although there's some damage to the front corner of the driver's door. Front and rear bench seats take on the cloth and add button accents to the upper portions and both are clean and intact and framed in gray vinyl. The cream painted steering wheel shows patina, the kind that tells the story of decades of hands at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions and it fronts a dashboard that also shows some age with some cracking ivory knobs and a single gauge in the center relaying seven bits of information. There's a clock molded into the center and an AM radio too, all between a chrome capped detail line on the dash. We have gray carpet below and a mohair headliner above and both are in decent condition. The big trunk is also covered in a cut to fit carpet pieces and houses a spare tire.
Drivetrain
Colored by surface rust, the engine presents as driver quality and original 226ci L-head inline 6 cylinder, rated at 95 horsepower and fed fuel through a 1-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a 3-speed manual transmission and the car runs on a 12 volt system.
Undercarriage
A newer gas tank highlights the underside where a single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler on its way to a chrome tipped exit. Drum brakes are on all four wheels and suspension is a basic setup of coil springs in front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
The L-head fires up and we conjure up our best 3 on the tree skills and roll this handsome car onto the test loop where it rolls straight and true and brakes on demand. No power steering here but it doesn't take long to get used to it and visibility remains good through the tall greenhouse. We note the radio and clock are not working but all other functions afforded to the driver operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
The fuel system, brakes, cooling system, ignition, heater core, ignition system, wiring and many other items that can't be seen have been gone through and repaired or replaced. This blue cruiser is ready to go and has room for the entire family! Cruise night, here we come!
