I bought this Hot Rod at Hot August Nights in Reno, Nevada in 2004 so I have owned it for over 20 years! I wanted an "all Ford" Hot Rod with air conditioning and I found this one. It was built by an old time Hot Rodder in Paradise, California. I was amazed by the subtle custom touches he had made. It looked like a fairly stock '46 but it has quite a bit of chrome removed, the windshield is v-butted so it looks like one piece instead of two, the 2 piece front fenders were welded together and then welded to the body, the rear fenders, splash pans, tail lights were also welded to the the body eliminating all of the welting, the ugly door hinges were removed and new ones mounted inside.
When I bought the car it was painted a metallic purple with teal and lime green flames. I've always thought Hot Rods should be black so it was repainted in 2016 with a base and clearcoat finish. I also had 4 wheel disc brakes added and had the car raised a couple of inches so it wouldn't scrape when driven over speed bumps. We took it to Reno that year for the 30th Anniversary of Hot August Nights.
It runs and drives like a 1960's Hot Rod. The front axle is a stock type with a three inch drop. The engine is a '78 Ford 302 with home built headers, the trans is a C4 with a trans kit, the rear end is a nine inch from a '72 Torino, the steering column is from a '78 Cougar, the steering box is from a '69 Mustang. The car has around 40,000 miles since it was built. It has air conditioning and power door windows. The rear windows pop out. The wheels at 14" Cragars.
The interior is light gray material. The doors panels and headliner have flames. The window frames and dash trim have been chromed. It has a banjo steering wheel. The rear seat material is different than the front seat and I usually cover it at cruise nights with a couple of T-shirts that feature the car.
Why am I selling it? During the last five or six years I have driven it less than a 1,000 miles so it is time to pass it on to someone else. It isn't perfect but it gets a lot of thumbs ups.
When people ask me how old it is, I simply say: "It's older than me but in better shape!" Text me if interested, Brent at 801-671-1625. I live in Nephi, Utah.
