Up for auction is a 1940 Ford Standard Business Coupe. This is a 100% original car that has only had 2 previous owners with 21,961 which I was told is the original miles. The A pillar service station stickers lead up to the current milage on the odometer. See pics!
This is the way it was explained to me by the second owner. The vehicle was purchased new in Denville, NJ 1940 at some point after that the gentleman went off to war when he returned it was driven locally until he bought a new Ford in 1946 at which point it was barely driven. It was stored in his barn in 1955 and it wasn't touched until 2023 when the second owner removed it from the barn and purchased it. The second owner planned on working on it but he never got around to it. I purchased the vehicle from him last summer with the intention of getting it running and using it in its original state but we really don't have time for it.

We let the cylinders soak with marvel mystery oil for a few weeks before attempting to turn the original flathead V8 motor and once we replaced all the ignition and fuel parts it fired right up. New parts replace are as follows; wheel cylinders, brake hoses, brake lines that needed to be replaced, fuel tank, sending unit, carburetor. belt, battery, plugs, wire, caps, points, aluminum radiator, thermostats and hoses.
It runs and drives well but may need to have the timing and vacuum advance readjusted once its driven a while. Vehicle does not smoke and it isn't leaking any fluids at is time. Clutch is smooth with no chattering. Please remember this vehicle is an 86 year old original vehicle that hasn't been altered or restored! The exhaust will need to be replaced. Tires hold air but are old and will need to be replaced in the near future. The parking lights, tail lights and license plate light work properly. I believe the headlight switch is bad and tried to purchase one but they are on a national backorder and didn't want to put a universal one in so I am still trying to find one but I'm not sure I will have one by the time the auction ends but I will try. The fuel gauge, amp meter and oil pressure gauges seem tom be working properly. It needs a temperature sending unit and possibly a gauge.
The vehicle is 100% original including the paint with all its patina. It has all the maintenance stickers on the A pillar as well as the fuel rationing sticker.
The vehicle is extremely solid with the exception of the package tray in the lower rear of the trunk is rotted as well as the rain gutters. There are new replacement rain gutters in the trunk as well as a few extra miscellaneous mechanical parts. We do have a current New Jersey title for the vehicle. There is a picture of the original vin # stamping into the frame. It is difficult to see in the picture but it is legible (5606702).
This is a true time capsule that has never been molested or altered. It receives a lot of attention and is a true conversation piece due to its originality and patina.
Vehicle can be sold at any time during the auction so please feel free to contact Wayne at (973)332-1074 to discuss the vehicle further or for any questions you may have. Thank you and good luck bidding!
